Why Fair Trade Campaign

To celebrate #FairTradeMonth we explore some of the Fair World Project reasons for #WhyFairTrade

Respect for the Environment
Buying fair trade is a good way to reduce your environmental footprint. Fair trade standards help enforce environmental protections such as limiting greenhouse gases, maintaining soil/water quality, and practicing sustainable farming methods.

Fair Trade supports businesses that ensure good working conditions for their workers!
Fair trade standards help protect workers' right to things like fair, living wages, health and safety precautions, and collective bargaining. Ensuring workers' rights is essential to protecting them from forms of exploitation like human trafficking and debt bondage.

NO Labor Exploitation!
This reason is highly important to us here at the Freedom Café as we continue our mission to #EndHumanTrafficking. Buying fair trade certified products helps fight against forced and child labor around the world. Your dollar has power, and supporting businesses that do not use exploitative labor is an important part of being a conscious consumer.

Support for Capacity Building and Community Development Efforts
Fair trade suppliers often work with their producers on capacity building efforts that benefit both the supplier and the producers. For instance, this could be training the production workers to acquire skills, or redistributing the profits to the workers' communities to increase education or employment. Fair trade benefits can be a long-term strategy to alleviating poverty in communities across the globe, which is why it is so important to support fair trade suppliers!

Fair Payment for Quality Goods
Although buying #FairTrade can be more expensive, it is worth the investment! Fair trade goods are priced fairly to account for production costs and livable wages for workers in the supply chain. And paying livable wages is one sure way to help fight labor exploitation!
