2021 Impact
2021 was another tumultuous year. Going into the year our team was tentative, yet hopeful that we would see a return to in-person programming and guests in our 10 Mill Rd. location. We looked forward to building on and preparing for a future transition to a Main Street, Durham location in early 2023. In February we learned that as a direct result of the pandemic, the landlord at our 10 Mill Rd. location would be taking his building in a new direction and would not renew our lease which would end May 31. After finishing out the UNH semester on Mill Rd, we opened at 37 Main St on June 9. The move was only possible because of a donation of equipment from our former sister Freedom Cafe at UMass Amherst which closed its doors in 2020 and the incredible support of our staff, volunteer team, local community members and the 23 contributors to our Move to Main Campaign.
THANK YOU to our incredible team of staff and volunteers for all of their hard work this past year! The Freedom Café's team was complete with 6 staff members and 39 volunteers throughout the year, completing a total of 2,210 volunteer hours. Thanks to their dedication and spirit over $46,000 was generated to directly support efforts to end human trafficking!
Please feel free to reach out in the coming year. We would love to support you and your community in understanding human trafficking and how to respond to and address local vulnerabilities.
